What Are YouTube Safe Zones ?
YouTube overlays various UI elements on top of your thumbnails—the video duration badge, "Watch later" button, and progress bars.Safe zones are areas of your thumbnail that remain visible and unobstructed.
The Duration Badge
The most important overlay to consider is the video duration badge, which appears in the bottom - right corner . Never place important text or visual elements in this area.
Other Overlay Areas
- Top - right: "Watch later" and menu icons on hover
- Bottom: Progress bar for partially watched videos
- Bottom - left: "Watched" indicator for completed videos
Best Practices
- Keep important elements in the center and left side
- Leave the bottom - right corner clear
- Test your thumbnails with overlay simulations
Use Pictiny's Safe Zone Simulator to visualize exactly where YouTube will place overlays on your thumbnails.
